The main objective of the ELASMOREP project is to develop tools for the future establishment of ex situ conservation programs of elasmobranchs to preserve their biodiversity. Our specific objectives are the next:
1. To optimize the techniques for the evaluation and preservation of sperm samples.
2. To establish a cryobank of sperm samples from elasmobranchs.
3. To develop techniques to isolate and mature oocytes in vitro.
4. To develop in vivo and in vitro fertilization techniques.
5. To develop and apply paternity assignment techniques for model elasmobranch species.
6. To improve the knowledge on the life cycle and the reproductive anatomy of elasmobranchs.
7. To disseminate the project results at different levels.
